Self-Hosting Handover Terms
Version 1.0 · Effective 14 August 2026 · Applies when you host the finished site yourself with no ongoing care plan.
1. What this covers
You have chosen to host and maintain your site yourself. These Terms sit alongside the Website Build Agreement and govern what we hand over and what happens afterwards. They are between you and Elevateagency, a Maryland limited liability company trading as Elevate Agency, of Boyds, Maryland, United States.
2. What we deliver
On final payment we provide:
- a complete export of your site files;
- a full WordPress export containing your content;
- a written handover guide covering how to install it;
- 30 days of email support from the handover date, limited to questions about the handover itself; and
- full ownership of the finished site, with nothing locked to us.
Your domain and existing email are untouched.
3. What becomes yours to handle
From handover, you are responsible for hosting and its cost, the SSL certificate and its renewals, WordPress and plugin and theme updates, backups and restoring from them, security including firewall and malware protection, and getting the site back online if it goes down. This is the trade for there being no monthly fee, and it is stated plainly on the order page before you choose it.
4. Third-party licences
Read this one carefully. Your site may use commercial plugins or themes licensed to us, not to you. Those licences do not automatically transfer. Where that applies we will tell you which ones and what they cost, and you will need your own licence to keep receiving their updates and support. A plugin without a current licence usually keeps working but stops receiving security updates, which matters on a site you are securing yourself.
5. No ongoing responsibility
After handover we do not monitor, maintain, back up or secure your site, and we are not responsible if it goes offline, is compromised, breaks after an update, or loses data. We have no access to it and no ability to intervene.
6. Support after 30 days
Email support ends 30 days after handover. Beyond that we are happy to help at our then-current rates, or you can move onto a care plan at any time at the price in effect then. Moving to a care plan may require us to review and repair the site first, which we will quote before starting.
7. Changes by you or others
Once the site is in your hands you can do whatever you like with it. But if you or anyone else modifies it, we are not responsible for the result and any implied warranty on our build ends at the point of modification.
8. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability relating to the handover is limited to the amount you paid us for the build. We are not liable for lost profits, lost data, lost business, downtime, or any indirect or consequential loss arising after handover. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
9. General
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland. Where they conflict with the Website Build Agreement in relation to hosting and post-handover responsibility, these Terms govern. If any clause is unenforceable, the rest survives.
